Jeff BowerAll the animated gifs, clip art, backgrounds, sets, buttons, animated dividers, lines, bars, pictures and digital art are free to use on your non-commercial website. All the animated gifs, jpg's and clip art on this site is made up of original and web collected material. Some of the collected animated gifs, jpg's and clipart have a copyright on them. The artists who created these graphics only want them used on non-commercial sites, and rightly so.

The artists have to earn an income and the view is, if you have a commercial site you should be willing to pay for the privilege of using them. That said if you have a commercial site and would like to use any of the animated gifs, jpg's or clip art contact me. I will tell you if the graphics you want can be used for FREE.

I have thousands of animated gifs jpg's and clipart. It is not possible to put them all on this site. If you have a commercial site I may be able to give you what you want for FREE, or perhaps for a link back to Feebleminds.

(Q) - I want to create my own graphics can you recommend a program.

(A) - Yes I can. There is quite a selection here graphics software programs you can make animated gifs, signatures, clipart, pictures and 3D images. I use these graphics programs myself, for most of them you can download a free version to try out. You are restricted in what you can do with the free versions though.

(Q) - How do I send animated gif images using a Mac computer?

(A) - The current Apple email program in OS 10.3 Panther doesn't support animated GIF files, at least when sending them to someone, though it does receive them. However, there is a new email client program for Mac OS X called Thunderbird available at http://mozilla.org that does support animated Gif's and it really works great, you simply drag the Gif image into the
email body and click send. I have heard that the next update in the Mac OS called Tiger (soon to be released) will have this capability built in.

(Q) - How do I put a gif or jpg file on my website?

(A) - You have to place the code into your HTML document. This is done by placing the code below into your web page document. Please note the code must be copied exactly as it appears here with your own image information otherwise the image will not display correctly, or at all. The space between each piece of code is one space. Where no space appears this is how it must be.

<img src="imagename.gif" width=size height=size align=position border=no alt="image information">

IMAGENAME: This means the file name of the gif or jpg file. The graphic name is followed by ( .gif ) or ( .jpg ). If you forget the dot before the gif or jpg the code will not work. Once you have saved the graphic you want to use to your hard drive you can get all the information on the graphic by "right clicking" on the graphic. From the box that appears "click" summery, here you will find the graphic height and width.
WIDTH: This means the width of the graphic.
HEIGHT: This means the height of the graphic.
NOTE: If you enter the wrong sizes the image will display but may be distorted.
ALIGN: This means the alignment horizontally across the page. Use either left, right or centre. To get vertical alignment the code is placed where on your page you wish the graphic to appear.
BORDER: This means if you wish to have a border around the graphic. Use ( =no ) unless you want to use the graphic as a link to another part of your site.
ALT: This tag is for a description of your graphic. When someone runs their curser over the graphic whatever information is contained within the ALT tag will appear. This is important for people who can't or don't want to view images. If the tag is used they can at least read what the image is, or is about. You should always use this tag. Although the graphic will still display without it.
< >: These tags you will find on your keyboard. They are the most important tags and are used for all coding. They must be used.
FINALLY: Put the HTML file and the gif or jpg file in the same folder in your documents. Open the HTML document by "clicking" on it. If all is well upload both files to your web space.

(Q) - Can I link to the graphics that I want ?

(A) - NO! This is a free site, I make no money from this site. It costs me money to keep it running. If you link to the graphics it puts up my bandwidth and then it costs me more money to increase my bandwidth. Please save the graphics to YOUR system. Now and again I change all the gif and jpeg file names. This means if you have linked to a file you will lose it from your computer or website.

(Q) - I found an animated gif that I want but it has a white background. Can you send me one with a black background ?

(A) - Yes I may well be able to do so. When you send me an email make it clear what you want. Tell me the preferred background, black, white or transparent. Tell me the preferred size of the graphic and if I can resize it for you I will. Give me as much information as you can and you may get a selection to choose from.

(Q) - If I ask for something how long will I have to wait for it ?

(A) - If I have what you want you should get it within 24 hours, taking into consideration the different time zones. At the most three days. I get e-mails from all over the world. Sending me an e-mail saying "send me gifs", will not get a response from me. It does happen!

(Q) - If I use anything from your site do I have to put a link to your site from mine ?

(A) - No you don't have to, but I would greatly appreciate it if you did.

(Q) -Have you got a banner I can use ?

(A) - Yes there is a banner at the top of this page that you can use. Given a choice I would prefer a text link, with the linked text reading "Feebleminds Animated Gifs".

(Q) - I cannot find what I'm looking for anywhere on the web. Will you make some graphics for me ?

(A) - Perhaps! It depends on what you want and how quickly you want it. Also I will have to charge you for custom graphics.

(Q) - Why do you run this site for free ?

(A) - I am a website designer and a search engine optimiser. I design sites for clients and optimise the site to achieve targeted visitors and high rankings in the search engines. High rankings means more visitors, more visitors means more sales. I get clients through Feebleminds, that's why I run the site for free. Plus of course I enjoy helping people.

(Q) - I have a very limited budget. Can you design a website for me ?

(A) - Yes of course I can. Websites need not be expensive, in fact simple sites do far better in the search engines. You can either e-mail me from the top of the page, or visit my web design site here. UK Website Design This site is text based. If you would rather see a more graphical site of mine go here Professional website design UK

(Q) - Can you let me know when you update the site ?

(A) - Sorry but due to the amount of emails I get I can't. I do however add a new page of graphics ever other month and the new page is always available from the top of my home page.

(Q) - How do I save a Gif or Jpeg image ?

(A) - In Internet Explorer right click on the gif or jpeg image. From the drop down menu select "save as" or "save target as". This will save the image to your default folder, which in most cases is the "my documents" folder. In Netscape right click on the gif or jpeg image. From the drop down menu select "save image as".

(Q) - When I save an animated gif to "my documents" why is it not animated anymore ?

(A) - When you save an animated gif to your documents it will not appear animated, although it still is. You will need to create an image folder to see the gif animated.

(Q) - How do I create an "image" folder in Windows?

(A) - In the bar at the top of your documents folder, click "new" and "folder". This will create a new folder in your documents. In the dimmed area type a name for your new folder. Now double click the folder to open it. In the bar at the top of the folder click "view" and then "customise this folder". You will be presented with a folder Wizard. In this Wizard you'll find lots of options for customising your folder. For now, click through to page three. From the options choose "image preview". Now click through the rest of the pages and click "finish". Now you have an "image" folder and can save your images to this folder. Left click on the image, if the image is animated it will show as animated in the viewing pane on the left side of the folder.

(Q) - How do I send a Gif or Jpeg image by e-mail ?

(A) - You can have a lot of fun sending images to friends and family. To insert a file into a message click anywhere in the message window. On the insert menu click file attachment, and then find the file you want to attach. Select the file, and then click "attach". The file is listed in the attach box in the message header. To insert a picture into a message, click the place in the message where you want the image to appear. On the insert menu, click "picture" and then click "browse" to find the image file. Enter layout and spacing information for the image file as needed, or just select "not set" to place the image where you left the curser in the message area..

NOTES.

If you cannot select the "picture" command, make sure HTML formatting is turned on by clicking the "format" menu in the message window and then clicking "rich text" (HTML). A black dot appears by the command when it is selected. If message recipients are not able to view your inserted images, on the "tools" menu, click "options". Click the "send" tab, click "HTML settings", and then make sure that "send pictures with messages" is selected. Then re-send your message. To insert a background picture into your message, in the "message" window, on the format menu, point to "background", and then click "picture". Click the browse button to search for the file you want to use.

(Q) - When I tried to save one of your gif's my only save option was BMP, ( bitmap )?

(A) - Well, there are no bitmaps on Feebleminds. The bitmap save option comes about because of a bug in Internet Explorer.

I will explain why this happens...

Internet Explorer has a cache. This cache is where all the web pages are stored from the web sites that you visit. The cache enables you to view all the pages you have recently visited offline. Also, because the pages are already stored in the cache when you re-visit a site the pages will load a lot quicker. If you happen to want to save an image when the cache is full, the only save option you'll get is BMP, which is not going to help you much. The answer to the problem is to empty your cache.

On the menu bar in Internet Explorer click tools, internet options. Under general settings click clear history. This will delete sites from the cache that you've recently visited. Now if you save an image it'll save in its original format. From the general settings tab you can select how many days to keep the recently visited pages. Under temporary internet files on the same tab you can select how much disc space you want to allocate to storing pages. Just click settings and use the slider or type in the amount of megs. If you're short on disc space set the amount low or empty the cache regularly. By clicking on the history button in the menu bar you can quickly view pages you have visited, offline. Just select a week or day from the window in the left hand column.

Please note! Sometimes when you clear the cache you are left with the same problem. If you still can't save graphics as gif's and jpg's do this. Click on your start button, then programs, then accessories, then system tools, and finally select "disc cleanup". You will be asked if you want to clean your (C disc), click yes. The computer will clean the disc, this process takes some minutes. Once the computer has finished you will be presented with a box giving you the option of deleting files on your system. Select the "temporary internet files". The computer will then delete all these files from the computer and now you will be able to save images as gifs and jpg's. These temporary files are only files that are stored from websites you visit and will not affect the performance of your computer.

If you follow the above steps, and the issue still occurs, move the Temporary Internet Files folder to a new location. To move the folder, follow these steps:

1. Start Internet Explorer.
2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
3. On the General tab, click Settings under Temporary Internet files.
4. Click Move Folder.
5. In the Browse for Folder dialog box, select a new location for the folder, and then click OK.
6. Click OK to close the Settings dialog box.
7. When you receive the following warning message, click Yes:
Windows will now log you off to finish moving Temporary Internet Files.
Do you want to continue?
(All other changes have been saved.)
Windows automatically logs you off of the computer.
8. Log back on to the computer and away you go. You should now be able to save the bitmap images in the correct format, i.e. gifs and jpg.
